Further success for Invensys Rail on Spain?s High Speed network
01 Jul 2010
Invensys Rail is to install its industry leading train control and European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) equipment on the first section of the Madrid to Galicia high-speed railway in Spain.
Invensys Rail and its partners will provide the signalling, fixed telecommunications network, centralised traffic control and train protection systems for the 87.5km long Orense to Santiago de Compostela high-speed railway for Spanish rail infrastructure manager ADIF, in a contract worth €136 million. When operational, journey times will be cut from the current 90 minutes to just 30, with onward connections from Orense to Madrid also slashed.
Invensys Rail has extensive and longstanding expertise in planning and providing signalling and train control systems on Spain's rapidly expanding high-speed rail network. It has already played a major part in the successful opening of the Madrid-Valladolid, Madrid-Toledo, Córdoba-Málaga and Lérida-Barcelona routes and is currently undertaking key signalling and train control contracts on the Madrid-Valencia and Barcelona-Figueras high-speed lines.
Invensys Rail CEO James Drummond says: "The award of this latest high-speed rail signalling contract cements our leading position in Spain, whose high-speed rail network is the fastest growing in Europe. We are proud to be able to play such a key part in the development of the country's rail network in the knowledge that our proven expertise is valued so greatly."
The company will supply interlocking systems, FS 3000 track circuits, the ERTMS centralised traffic control centre, LED signals and the national ASFA train protection system. The contract is due to run for 16 months.
